Echo Show 15

MSRP $ 250.00

“Its strong resemblance to a photo frame suggests the promise of the ideal smart home: a living space filled with normal and expected items that serve more than one purpose.”

Pros

  • Large 15.6-inch screen
  • Widget functionality makes it easy to see tasks, smart home, and more at a glance
  • Different orientation options
  • Visual identification exchanges between users

Cons

  • Lacks customization and personalization options
  • Software crashes without explanation

The original Amazon Echo Show model looked more like late-90s dream CRTs than a smart display, but the product has improved and evolved over time to its latest version. The Echo Show 15, a wide, sharp screen that looks like a digital photo frame. At 15 inches diagonal with a flat back, it looks perfectly at home mounted on a wall as a truly functional piece of art.

Its strong resemblance to a photo frame suggests the promise of the ideal smart home: a living space filled with normal and expected items that serve more than one purpose. I’ve used the Echo Show 15 for a little over a week now and have found myself leaning on it for many different tasks, more than I have used on a smart display in the past.

Enough screen space to properly view Casablanca

The obvious standout feature of the Echo Show 15 is its display. It’s really huge, which is a huge improvement over the five and even eight-inch versions. At 15.6 inches wide with a 1080p screen, all content is clearly displayed. It should come as no surprise, then, that Amazon put a lot of work into the Echo Show 15’s video options.

The Echo Show 15 is a great device for viewing content.

You can watch Prime Video, Netflix, and Hulu on the device. You can also watch YouTube through Amazon Silk’s built-in web browser. An on-screen keyboard makes it easy to quickly search for content; of course you can also ask Alexa to play the video you are looking for.

With such a large screen, the Echo Show 15 seems like the perfect addition to an office, especially when video conferencing is considered, except it doesn’t work with Zoom. Amazon says Zoom support is coming in the next few months and will use the 5-megapixel camera found in the upper-right corner of the Echo Show 15.

The beauty of widgets

Besides streaming all your favorite shows, the other benefit of such a large screen is the widget functionality. The Echo Show 15 features different widgets that provide at-a-glance access to your favorite Alexa features. You can access them by swiping down from the top of the screen and tapping “widget gallery” or by simply asking Alexa to open the gallery.

There are several options to choose from:

  • Alexa Suggestions
  • Calendar and reminders (daily and monthly)
  • Commute daily
  • Favorite photos
  • Maps
  • Music and audio
  • Reorder suggestions
  • Shopping list
  • Smart Home Favorites
  • Adhesive notes
  • The daily show
  • To do list
  • Weather
  • What to eat
  • Your deliveries

It is thanks to these widgets that I have spent so much time with the Echo Show 15. You can divide the screen into different segments for your widgets. At first, I had thought of using the Echo Show 15 in the kitchen to work on recipes, but it has found a home in my office (at least for now) as I plan for CES 2022.

The ability to link my Google calendar to Alexa means that I can see upcoming meetings at a glance. I can also have my to-do list in view at all times, while the smart home widget allows me to control devices in my office without talking. (Nothing will annoy a tech company meeting more than giving an Alexa command and activating a half dozen different devices.)

The Echo Show 15 uses widgets to display information.

For now, the widgets are strictly those provided by Amazon. However, the company has released an API that developers can use. Over time, widgets can go the way of Alexa Skills, and you’ll have more to choose from than you could ever dream of.

Design versatility

The Echo Show 15 can be mounted in either a portrait or landscape orientation, making it even more versatile than it already was. If you buy a third-party bracket, you can even mount it to the countertop at an angle. The different settings make the Echo Show 15 ideal for so many different tasks, whether it is used in the kitchen or in the office.

It’s definitely best for entertaining when in landscape orientation, but portrait layout is best for reading content.

Picture in picture

However, another new feature that gives way to day-to-day functionality is the picture-in-picture function. The best way to explain it is by illustrating it. If I have Hulu streaming on the Echo Show 15, I can ask Alexa to show one of my security cameras. It appears in the upper right part of the screen and allows me to check things around the house without losing sight of the plot.

Visual identification

Visual ID is another new feature. Use the Echo Show 15’s camera to identify individual family members and change the display based on what’s relevant to that person. It’s one that I didn’t take advantage of, it’s true: my wife and I see the same hours, the same shopping list, and more. However, it could be useful for a household full of children.

Visual identification could be used to display individual to-do / task lists for each child in the house, and the calendar could change to show who has an upcoming game or project to do.

Privacy & Security

Any device with built-in microphones and cameras will come under scrutiny for privacy. We have written extensively about the need for stricter security measures, especially physical privacy shutters. The Echo Show 15 delivers on that in spades.

The Echo Show 15 uses a physical privacy shutter.

It includes a button to turn off the microphone, as well as a physical shutter that blocks the view of the target. There are two buttons on the top of the Echo Show 15 (or on the side, if you have it oriented vertically) that control the volume. Beyond that, everything else is controlled by voice or touch.

Like other Alexa-enabled devices, you can choose to delete your recordings. It’s a good idea to keep track of the information your smart assistant knows about you, but the advantage of the Echo Show 15 is that you don’t have to worry about it being recorded – with the lens closed, you can’t see anything.

Installation and installation

Setting up the Echo Show 15 is a breeze. It’s as simple as plugging your smart display into a power outlet, waiting for it to turn on, and following the onscreen instructions. That is all it takes. You will need your Wi-Fi password on hand to log into your home network, and then you will need to log into your Amazon account.

Keep your phone handy to receive the password for two-factor authentication. If you don’t have that enabled, do it now. You control the Echo Show 15 through the Alexa app. It’s where you can change your screen, images, and more.

The not so good

Although I am incredibly impressed with the Echo Show 15, there are a few areas that could be improved a bit. First, the software is a bit delicate. Trying to stream content from Netflix or Hulu often caused an app to crash, but only if you used the touch screen to access it. Asking Alexa to open the app or play a specific episode worked each and every time without fail. My hope is that this is just a small issue that can be fixed with a patch.

Another potential problem is weight. The Echo Show 15 is not lightweight; in fact, it weighs just over 4 pounds. If you’re lifting weights, it’s no big deal. For a smart display? He would be afraid of the end result if he fell off the wall.

Finally, the lack of customization is disappointing. The Echo Show 15 is so big and so colorful that users could easily turn it into their own custom device. There is no real way to change the blue background and the layout of the widgets is limited. It feels like an area where Amazon could have enabled (and perhaps still can, with OS updates) a lot more features.

Not the best camera or audio

The Echo Show15 does however have more advanced camera sensors than most phones. The device is made up of a small 6MP sensor but the cameras do not have an automatic-rearrangement capability unlike the 13MP CMOS Cameras used on its second gen smartphones. The show also lacks audiopower, but it can be understood more by the short appearance. Inspect a sound which can be heard while sitting but is useful and powerful enough for the enjoyment of music. The basslines are listened to though the basslines lack some level of upper mid tones providing surprisingly uplifting sounds though some are mild and soft. The violent guitar sounds are still at the forefront, with the loud vocals resting a good deal out of sight.

Echo on the Wall

Amazon’s Echo Show15 is a smartly installed large-screen pc. We enjoy its big screens and widget settings, but the sound is poor, both as far as quality is concerned, but the picture does. Its high-performance features sound much larger and the camera is more detailed and has a wide range of colors and resolutions, making it very attractive and versatile. Portal Go costs nearly $300 but has a touchscreen as an optional add-on that allows customers to get to other sites with an enterprise-level videoconferencing solution. Echo Show 10 combines better audio with helpful mechanical tracking features. The Portal is $299.

Roster changes

Apple University launched in 2008 for the purpose of instilling in new managers Apples operating practices in the workforce. In fact, the internal MBA program was founded with the backing from the Deans at Yale School of Management Joel Podolny. This time his focus has been on building an entrepreneurial company. The Bench

Apple’s headquarters for WiFi will open in Southern Calif. Irvine has an expert reputation, as well as home Apple vendors such as Broadcom LLC and Skyworks Solutions Inc. As the story goes, our future mode telecommunications chips will have chips that will be the same as Apple wireless and Bluetooth based devices. Apple has delayed its office returns deadline five times and Cook quickly found that many of its employees already return from absent absence. Apple says consumers will be able to remove products from their store shelves temporarily. Some storefronts will no longer be accessible due to crowds increasing.

Starters

Apple has had an important role at home but is still very late on that. Amazon is behind Google for smart speakers or similar devices. If Apple is learning more about its rival then it may even come up with an Apple iPad. This Echo 15 will easily monitor temperature by reading e-mail or watching camera footage. If apple had a full app store, it could easily beat Amazon, and adding cameras and more powerful processors should be no concern. If Apple will design an innovative home laptop for consumers, it might not sacrifice its quality.

Alexa remains helpful

So you’ll need to tell Alex the command to do the following. Alexa can access your apps calendar or view weather information for you. The Drop Into feature of Alexa allows you to create phone calls and make audio calls. It supports voice communications, video and internet calls from anywhere in Australia and Canada. Skype support and zoom support come in early 2019 with redesigned and expanded services. Alex is mostly used through Echo-based speakers and does not utilize Echo-powered smart TVs to control it.

Our take

The Amazon Echo Show 15 is the largest and most impressive smart display I’ve ever used. Almost immediately it became my most used smart display. The option to stream all my security cameras to one place while still tracking the weather and my upcoming events is amazing.

It’s not perfect, but it’s a big step in the right direction for smart displays. The new smart displays need parity between equivalent models, but in certain respects the Echo Show 15 has lower specs than the Echo Show 10.

Is there a better alternative?

In terms of size, nothing compares to the Echo Show 15. It’s the biggest and baddest out there. At the same time, it only has a 5-megapixel camera compared to the 13-megapixel camera on the Echo Show 10, a smart display for the same price.

The difference? The Echo Show 10 is a device primarily for communication. It spins to track you through a room. The Echo Show 15 is for entertainment. In terms of that, this smart display is top of the line.

How long will it last?

The Echo Show 15 has a robust construction that gives the impression of quality. That said, your weight works against you. If it fell, its weight could result in more damage. If something happens, you have a one-year limited warranty and service included.

Should you buy it?

Yes. The Echo Show 15 is a tremendous device with a lot of utility. It’s the natural evolution of the Echo Show, and if you plan on using it for entertainment or utility, such as being at the top of your to-do list, you can’t go wrong.

What does Echo Show actually do?

Why are Echo TVs used by Apple computers? Amazon has created and released Echos which can work like Amazon Echos in various applications. Alexa will be connected to the artificial intelligence that uses the voice to control it. Alexa has access to several useful tools for monitoring the weather and answering questions on your smart device, but most are limited to your smartphone!

What’s the difference between Alexa and Echo Show?

This is the most valuable feature of the speaker, which combines Amazons Alexa digital assistant with Voice Control for user control. . Both tablets have an Alexa voice assistant, only Echo Show has an LCD screen. But most features follow a definite rule of thumb.

Can I watch TV on Echo Show?

Yes. With the Echo Show Alexa can listen directly to television episodes using numerous similar services for streaming video content from. If you want to see a live stream via video click here. I can even add “Alexa, check out the video Home”. Click here.

Can you FaceTime with Echo Show?

Will it work offline or face time when I talk to iCloud Messenger? I’m not able to watch Facetime with Echo Shows. FaceTime is Apple’s own private chat program for Macintosh. Echos can send videos only to their Alexa smartphone and can only receive voice calls through Apple’s phone.
