On July 6, the Agartala-Deoghar Weekly Express was flagged off from Agartala to ease the travel of devotees of Anukulchandra visiting his guru’s ashram in Deoghar, Jharkhand, which is also famous for the Baidyanath temple.
The train will cover the distance of 1,473 km in 39 hours. Additionally, the 15.054 km long Agartala-Akhaura rail project in West Tripura district is expected to connect the North-Eastern Railways to the Bangladesh Railway network by 2020.
Union Minister Rajen Gohain said, “It will be proposed to name the train ‘Satsang Express’ after the institution ‘Satsang’ founded by Anukulchandra and its headquarters in Deoghar.
Things you need to know about Agartala-Deoghar Express:
- The weekly train will start from Agartala every Saturday at 10:00 pm and reach Deoghar at 1:00 pm every Monday. On the return journey, it will leave Deoghar at 6:45 pm every Monday and reach Agartala at 8:15 am on Wednesday.
- The train comes with AC 3-tier, sleeper class and general second class coaches.
- People en route and from neighboring states like Nagaland, Meghalaya, Sikkim, AP, Manipur, Bihar, West Bengal and Assam will also benefit from this service.
According to Mr. Gohain, rail services can be connected to Chittagong port of Bangladesh through Sabroom and thereafter, huge business potential will open up in the state, which will make Tripura the best state in Northeast India.
